What to check on a used Gran Max
- Service record: a work van does high mileage; ask for receipts, not just a stamp.
- Load history: vans driven overloaded wear their suspension, clutch and brakes faster.
- Flood exposure: look for silt under the carpets and rust on seat rails.
- Body conversions: a box, chiller or hawker body should match the registration card.
- Gearbox: on an automatic, check for slipping or late shifts; on a manual, the clutch bite.
When new makes more sense
- You need the van every day and cannot afford downtime.
- You want a fixed monthly payment with little or no deposit.
- You need a specific body (chiller, mobile cafe, luton) or an automatic.
